Faith Presbyterian Church Reformed of Mesquite Texas (formerly First Presbyterian Church of Rowlett, TX) invites you to join with us as we sing through the Psalms this year.  Each year since 1992 our congregation has sung entirely through the 150 Psalms. We start the first week of January with Psalm 1 and end with Psalm 150 during the last week of December.

One of the tools we use to accomplish this is a monthly Psalm calendar based on our Comprehensive Psalter.  This schedule assigns a psalm selection for each weekday plus each Saturday of the month.  We sing those same six Psalm selections in our public worship the following Sunday; three in our morning worship and three in our afternoon (evening) worship. This has been our practice now for about 15 years.

If you desire to spend more time in the living Word of God, our Monthly calendars offer help and encouragement to accomplish this godly desire.

Our monthly calendar is designed to help the individual believer sing entirely through the Psalms in one year.  The first day of January begins with Psalm 1.  The calendar continues through the year with a selection for each day of each week (except Sundays) and ends with Psalm 150 during the last week of December.

This year we have also added a Scripture reading each day as well.  The reading portion for each day includes a scripture portion from the Old Testament and the New Testament.  Using this schedule, you will read entirely through the Bible in one year.  It might seem like a monumental task, but each day’s reading takes only approximately 15 minutes.  Fifteen minutes a day, six days a week, and you will have read through the entire Bible in one year.

We started our Read Thru the Bible in a Year Program last year in May, so the readings for January are in Psalms and 1 Corinthians.  However, if you continue with the readings all year long, you will complete the entire Bible by December.

Our Sing Through the Psalms in a Year Calendar is based on our own Comprehensive Psalter (available on this website.)  However, it can easily be adapted to any Psalter available to the different Presbyterian and Protestant denominations.  If you are unfamiliar with the tunes, they are available by download as midi files at our website.  Alternatively, if you are unable to SING through the Psalms, you can still READ through the Psalms in a year by reading each day’s Psalm selection from your KJV Bible, or from  The Comprehensive Psalter or any other Psalter.

Even if your local church does not sing through the Psalms as ours does, you can personally sing through the Psalter in a year if you use the Psalm calendar in your private devotions and/or family worship. Because it offers a Psalm selection for each weekday and Saturday, there is a selection for you to sing each day (except for the Lord’s Day).  Using this method, you will sing through the Psalms in one year.

If once a year is not enough for you, you can combine both methods.  Utilizing this plan, the members of our local congregation actually sing through the entire book of Psalms twice each year: once in private devotions and/or family worship during the week and once again with the church congregation on the Lord’s Day.

We at FPCR desire that many of God’s people will join with us as we sing through the Psalms this year.  It is our hope that by singing the Psalms day by day and week by week more and more of God’s people will have His Word in their mouths.

There are numerous reasons for singing the Psalms.  At the top of the list is the simple fact that these songs were written by God the Holy Sprit.  Further, Christ has promised to sing them together with His people in the midst of the great congregation (Hebrews 2:12 together with Psalm 22:22).  Finally, we should sing the Psalms because they are the Word of God.  We rejoice to hear the very words of God in our mouths, and the mouths of our seed and our seed’s seed, just as God promised in Isaiah 59:21.  It is our earnest desire that more of the family of Christ can experience this covenantal, multi-generational promise, thereby fulfilling the command of Psalm 98:1, “O sing a new song to the Lord.”

This Psalm singing calendar can be adapted to any Psalter available to the different Presbyterian and Protestant denominations.  However, it is specifically designed to complement The Comprehensive Psalter available at our website here.

NOTE:  If you are unfamiliar with the tunes, they are available by download as midi files here.

If you are unable to SING through the Psalms with us, you can still READ through the Psalms in a year by reading each day’s Psalm selection from your KJV Bible or from  The Comprehensive Psalter.
