When God Refuses To Hear: What Is Behind Unanswered Prayer?

In these three volumesPastor Bacon explains what sometimes hinders our prayers from being answered. It istrange that people speak of prayer as being “answered” by God, but that God’s answer is “no.” Scripture does not refer to answered prayer in that way. John 16:24, for example, states, “hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name; ask and ye shall receive that your joy may be full.” That verse does not imply that God will answer “no” and that constitutes “receiving an answer.” The implication is clearly that we should expect to receive what it is we prayed for. There is no material difference between saying that the answer we received was “no” and that we received no answer. The fact is, however, that there are several reasons that God in Scripture gives for not answering our prayers. These sermons outline about a dozen reasons (though there are others).
